M/K's Keweenaw Adventure Guide // Calumet Waterworks & Keweenaw Coffee Works

Updated: Jul 5

May 1st is a great day to start your summer adventures. We started ours with a smaller Sunday morning drive to Calumet. The directions for both of these stops is rather straight forward, then some other stops in the Keweenaw. This adventure also doesn't require any off-roading, woot woot to fully paved driving! Both locations also show up in Google Maps and Apple Maps - I would recommend stopping by the coffee shop on your way out to the lake to pick up a drink and treat for your beach walk-about.

Keweenaw Coffee Works had ample seating and parking despite it being a busier Sunday morning in the shop. The drink menu is diverse and offers something for everyone, including a few kid drink options! The store has a cute shopping or market area as you enter - perfect if you need to pick up a gift or bag of coffee to bring home!

The bakery section was amazing! A 2$ donut special caught our attention and we paired with a vanilla latte as well as their speciality thai cold brew with cold foam.

Calumet was giving us the max ghost-town-vibes with the low fog and eerie church steeples.

Calumet Waterworks is a short drive from Keweenaw Coffee Works. It's a rocky coastline facing west onto Lake Superior. Its a great location for swimming, paddling, rock finding and our personal fav, picking up trash! This beach has ample parking, basketball courts, fire pits and playground equipment. They ask that fires do not happen on the beach! It has has a few streams leading into the Lake as well as an established hiking trail adjacent to the parking lot. All and all, its a great place to check out anytime of the year if you are near Calumet.

* The joys of trash pick up // Somedays I plan ahead better trash getting equipment/protection, sometimes we just grab what we see and hand sanitize back at the car.
